Afterglow

bl00dwave's 2014 release N E W  V I S U A L S was my introduction to vaporwave and I have remained a fan of their music ever since. The album features collab tracks with heavy hitters 猫 シ Corp and YUNG BAE and was undoubtedly what set me down the path of future funk, city pop, lo-fi and plunderphonics. In late 2015 bl00dwave started moving away from making sample based music and began producing a more retro synth-wave sound. Their 2018 album EGO is where I believe the combination of all of these influences truly harmizes into a perfectly executed record featuring some really dope vocal performances...

Wind Your Spring

Wind Your Spring

Cody J AKA Corduroi is a glitchy beatmaker and IDM producer from San Antonio, TX. Wind Your Spring is a collection of unreleased tracks spanning half a decade. It was followed a couple of weeks later by a 5 song EP entitled Imago that I also recommend checking out. I have an aversion to trip-hop and I would be lying if I said that a lot of these songs didn't fall under that classification but this shit hits different. It sounds biomechanical. The songs are filled with classic naustalgic electro sounds but the vibe is very organic in the literal sense. Like watching a...

Impact Winter OST

I have a bad habit of getting emotionally invested in IPs that no one gives a shit about. Not in the typical 'I found it first' or 'This is so underated' kind of way though because generally these properties are, for the most part, accurately rated. Impact Winter is a game I really enjoyed and the IP will now, most likely, sit in a vault at BANDAI NAMCO until I die. The game sees you and your floating Ako-Light robo companion explore a city buried in snow and gather supplies to keep a group of survivors alive for 30 days until you can be airlifted out of...

Tales From the Flowers EP

Toronto based composer biosphere makes Studio Ghibli inspired instrumental hiphop. Their latest EP, Tales From the Flowers, features collaborative production from lofi artists Kalaido, aqualina, and ibrahim making it a great introductory release for anyone who wants to delve into the world of record crackle and soul samples. This album plays like a deligtful adventure, hand drawn and loviningly detailed. It makes me think of all the hidden little gems in the world of anime that never seem to get referenced like Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals, Origin: Spirits of the Past, Jade Cocoon: Story of the Tamamayu or Wonderful Days (Sky Blue). Tales From the Flowers will spark memories of your...
