Moonlit Tales by Portland's Kalaido is a dreamy collection of 11 lo-fi hip hop instrumentals featuring live recordings of guitar, flute, oboe, and trumpet from fellow artists Pearl Pixel, Kennebec, and Kelly Pratt. The most notable of these contributors, Kelly Pratt, is a founding member of the band Beirut and a highly recognized multi instrumentalist and composer having worked with groups like LCD Soundsystem, Passion Pit, and The Antlers. Future soul and lofi hiphop producer Goro Kumai recently uploaded two full length releases "THE MOTEL" and "Wandering Beats Vol.1" to bandcamp. Two fully realized 13 track albums of slick and soulful instrumentals. Full of sexy and sophisticated sample work reminiscent of Souls of Mischief era beat composition. While they are both excellent releases I prefer The Motel. Beyond making music Goro does all their own visual art as well as running a music program for those looking to become proficient with an Akai MPC sampler.
